What to expect through our TMJ physiotherapy program

The primary focus of our TMJ physiotherapy program is to address daytime risk factors such as posture, muscle fatigue and neck pain issues that can negatively impact your quality of life. Dry needling may be recommended to help relax focal areas of the chew muscle which are spasming. Where large areas of muscle are involved, our clinicains may recommend injectable treatments to assist in alleviating the issue.

TMJ focused physiotherapy can assist with exercising and strengthening your jaw muscles and neck muscles, both improving the range of movement of the jaw and its functionality. Acupuncture can be combined with physiotherapy to further help with reducing pain resulting from TMD disorder.

Reducing muscular tension and changing habits can play a significant role in the successful management of a TMJ disorder. Your TMJ dentist may suggest you see one of our physiotherapists to assess and manage the muscular aspects of your pain. Our physiotherapists will provide you with a management, stretching, and exercise plan to assist with your symptom control and overall disease management. Make an enquiry today to find out if you could benefit from seeing one of our jaw physios.
